    Overview

The Maine Historic Preservation Matching Grants, funded by The 1772 Foundation in partnership with Maine Preservation, are designed to support various types of historic preservation projects in Maine. These grants are 1:1 matching funds, up to $10,000, aimed at encouraging and promoting the sustainable preservation of historical sites. The program focuses on exterior maintenance including painting, structural repairs (e.g., porches, roofs, windows), and the installation or upgrading of essential systems like fire detection and security. Applicants are required to provide a cyclical maintenance or stewardship plan and a recent conditions assessment to demonstrate the project's sustainability and strategic planning. The foundation also offers the possibility of funding the development of these plans for applicants lacking the necessary documentation, evaluating each request on a case-by-case basis.
