The 1772 Foundation's mission is to ensure the safe passage of our historic buildings and farmland to future generations.
The grant program from the 1772 Foundation is designed to support historic preservation projects through 1:1 matching grants of up to $10,000. The funding supports a range of preservation activities including exterior painting, finishes and surface restoration, installation or upgrading of fire detection, lightning protection and security systems, repairs to/restoration of structural elements such as porches, roofs, windows, foundations, and sills, and chimney and masonry repointing. New for 2027, the Preservation Trust of Vermont, with 1772 Foundation support, will award $10,000 in Climate Action pilot grants for energy audit assessments, insulation upgrades, alternative energy sources (solar, geothermal, wind, etc.), and upgrading or converting systems and appliances. Water mitigation (wet-proofing crawl spaces, gutters, site work) may be considered, with preference given to decarbonization projects. Climate Action projects cannot be combined with other project categories.
