Ability Central, a division of the California Communication Access Foundation, aims to improve communications and information access for individuals who are D/deaf or disabled and their families and caregivers. They work collaboratively to serve as an educator, convener, and resource, with the vision of transforming the field of communications and information access so everyone can access information and express themselves.
Ability Central's rapid response Access Improvement Grants offer short-term funding, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, on a rolling basis to organizations or projects serving people with communication disabilities. These grants are designed to assist smaller nonprofits, especially those with a budget less than $1 million, in increasing the participation of people with disabilities in their events and programs. Covered expenses include staff accessibility training, audio description of materials, ASL interpreters, DeafBlind Co-Navigators, captioning, and sensory or tactile experience rooms for socio-emotional learning.
