The mission of the Alabama Power Foundation is to support community development by investing in initiatives across five key areas: Educational Advancement, Civic and Community Development, Arts and Cultural Enrichment, Health and Human Services, and Environmental Stewardship.
The Power to Play Grants program supports the enhancement of extracurricular student activities in arts and athletics, recognizing the vital role these activities play in student success both in and out of the classroom. The grants aim to expand opportunities and increase participation for students, which in turn strengthens communities. This year, the program includes provisions to offset revenue losses in arts or athletics departments due to COVID-19-related restrictions. Permissible uses of the funds range from purchasing new equipment and uniforms for new teams or players, to payment for coaching supplements, referee expenses, or venue improvements in athletics. For arts, the grants can cover new uniforms for dance teams or choirs, equipment purchases for band members or production needs, and significant fee reductions to increase enrollment in arts programs. Additionally, COVID-19 support encompasses funding for lost revenue from concession sales, parking, ticket sales, or to facilitate live streaming of events.
