The Alaska Humanities Forum connects Alaskans through stories, ideas, and experiences that inspire understanding and strengthen communities. It envisions a culturally diverse, economically vibrant, and equitable Alaska where people are engaged, informed, and connected.
The Strengthening Communities Grants Program, specifically the Stories Grants, aims to build a more inclusive narrative of Alaska’s past and present by elevating stories, voices, and experiences that have historically been underrecognized or excluded from public discourse. This grant program emphasizes the power of storytelling in bridging differences and fostering connections within communities across Alaska. It prioritizes projects that are timely, rooted in local knowledge and lived experience, collaborative, publicly accessible, and capable of sparking understanding and connection among audiences. Stories Grants support projects such as written articles, oral histories, podcasts, documentary photography, short video/film projects, and digital multimedia initiatives with the intention of awarding eight $10,000 grants annually.
