Alpha Omega Alpha, founded in 1902, is the national medical honor society. Its mission is dedicated to the belief that in the profession of medicine we will improve care for all by recognizing high educational achievement; honoring gifted teaching; encouraging the development of leaders in academia and the community; supporting the ideals of humanism; and promoting service to others.
The AΩA Professionalism Award aims to recognize ongoing programs within medical schools or other institutions that exemplify best practices in the education and practice of medical professionalism. These programs should involve students, residents, faculty, and other healthcare team members, demonstrate evidence of effectiveness and sustainability, and be exportable to other medical institutions. The award offers a one-time grant of $10,000 to honor faculty, programs, and institutions that excel in medical professionalism education. One award is presented annually.
