Alpha One has been promoting independent living for people with disabilities in Maine since 1978. With a focus on enabling individuals across all ages and disabilities to live more fully and independently, Alpha One offers a diverse range of services unparalleled by many similar centers. Their mission spans advocacy, implementation of systems change, and promoting consumer-directed personal assistance to overcome barriers for disabled individuals.
The Powering Education Scholarship by Alpha One aims to provide financial support to individuals with disabilities pursuing post-secondary education. This includes support for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Each year, three selected candidates will receive awards to aid in their educational endeavors. The scholarship reflects Alpha One's broader goals of empowering people with disabilities by providing opportunities for higher education.
