The mission of the AASM Foundation is to lead the field in academic sleep medicine in terms of research and education, aiming to enhance sleep health for all through funding initiatives. The RLS Foundation focuses on improving care and seeking cures for those affected by Restless Legs Syndrome through research, education, and connecting communities.
The Strategic Research Grant from the AASM Foundation is designed to support high-impact, investigator-initiated research projects that address gaps in knowledge impacting the ability to provide optimal, patient-centered, cost-effective diagnosis and care for people with sleep disorders. It emphasizes research in areas aligned with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Strategic Plan Goals, including Advocacy to Improve Patient Care, Public Awareness, Technology Innovation, and Workforce Development, to advance the field of sleep medicine and population sleep health. The grant spans three categories, varying in period of performance and amount—from up to $250,000 for Category I to up to $50,000 for Category III—covering research expenses with limitations on indirect costs.
