The mission of the AASM Foundation is to lead the field in academic sleep medicine in terms of research and education, aiming to enhance sleep health for all through funding initiatives. The RLS Foundation focuses on improving care and seeking cures for those affected by Restless Legs Syndrome through research, education, and connecting communities.
The AASM Foundation's Strategic Research Grant focuses on funding high-impact research projects that aim to fill knowledge gaps and enhance the ability to provide optimal, patient-centered, cost-effective diagnosis and care for people with sleep disorders. This program includes two main research initiatives: 1) investigator-initiated research that addresses these gaps in sleep disorder care, and 2) dissemination and implementation research that focuses on reducing the time it takes for biomedical research to be applied in clinical practice. The goal is to increase the uptake of evidence-based findings into real-world settings, specifically through the dissemination and implementation of AASM Clinical Practice Standards and findings from AASM Foundation-funded projects. The grant offers various funding levels and durations, supports a range of research expenses, and emphasizes the importance of applying research in practical, clinical settings to improve outcomes for individuals with sleep and circadian disorders.
