The mission of the American Alpine Club (AAC) is to support scientific research in mountain and crag environments worldwide, contributing to our understanding of these ecosystems and landscapes integral to the climbing experience. Their goal includes improving the management of climbing environments and ensuring the climbing community's health and sustainability.
The American Alpine Club, in collaboration with the Access Fund, has initiated the Anchor Replacement Fund to address concerns over failing climbing anchors across the United States. Recognizing the need to replace aging bolts installed in the 80s and 90s and to support local and national partners in these efforts, the fund focuses on ensuring the safety and accessibility of climbing areas. Grant applicants must illustrate the need for new anchors and local community support, with applications reviewed by experts from the Access Fund, American Alpine Club, and the anchor replacement community.
