The grant primarily aims to foster excellence in quantitative geography, particularly at the Master’s level. It supports outstanding research in this field, not limited to geography students but open to applicants from various disciplines. The award seeks to motivate scientific investigations that expand the understanding of geography through quantitative methods. Each year, two awardees are recognized for their exceptional academic performance in Master’s research. Recipients benefit from a cash prize, a certificate of merit, and public acknowledgment during a special session at the AAG (American Association of Geographers) meeting.

  • Final stage of graduating with a Master's degree; within 6 months at the time of application deadline or having graduated within 6 months prior to the application deadline
  • Research must demonstrate innovation in quantitative methodology or emphasize quantitative geography
  • Research must be thesis or equivalent, with potential to be published in a refereed journal
  • Applied projects and portfolios are not eligible
  • No limit on the number of applicants from each institution
  • Not required to be a member of the American Association of Geographers, though membership is encouraged
  • Must be in compliance with the AAG Professional Conduct Policy
