AERA: Research Grants

The AERA Grants Program, supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), is designed to provide Research Grants to faculty at institutions of higher education, postdoctoral researchers, and other doctoral-level scholars. The program's broad goals are to advance fundamental knowledge that is of relevance to STEM education policy, enhance significant science through the use of education data, support equity in STEM fields, and build research capacity in education and learning. It specifically supports studies that employ rigorous quantitative methods to analyze large-scale education-related data in an effort to understand various aspects of STEM education, including but not limited to student achievement, education policies, contextual factors affecting education, educational participation and persistence across all levels, early childhood development, postsecondary education, and STEM workforce and transitions. The program prioritizes research that uses major data sets from federal agencies such as the NCES and the NSF, and encourages proposals that involve advanced statistical or innovative quantitative methods, the analysis of multiple large-scale data sets, and research on diverse topics relevant to STEM policy and practice including diversity, equity, and inclusion. Funding for the grants can go up to $25,000 for 1-year projects or up to $35,000 for 2-year projects, covering a variety of research-related expenses.
