AFSP's mission is to reduce the national suicide rate by 20% by the year 2025. The organization aims to achieve this by focusing on the biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors known to contribute to the suicide burden in the United States.
The Reaching 20% by 2025 Focus Grant seeks applications that address interventions within healthcare systems, emergency departments, corrections settings, or among the gun owning community that have the potential to significantly lower the U.S. national suicide rate if applied widely. The grant supports projects with a clear rationale for how the intervention can measurably reduce suicide rates, demands baseline and follow-up measurements of suicidal behavior or proxies, and requires a conceptual model to show broad impact potential. Grants are up to $500,000 annually for a maximum of three years. Proposals must be U.S.-based, demonstrate feasibility, and preference is given to projects that involve collaborations with experienced suicide researchers and that either have matching funds or partner with large healthcare systems.
