The American Musicological Society exists to expand understanding of music and sound through research, teaching, learning, and advocacy. To achieve this, the Society supports a variety of initiatives including grants, fellowships, publications, public programs, and professional support for its members. Central to its mission is the promotion of equity, access, and inclusion.
The H. Robert Cohen/RIPM fund supports research based on the musical press, in honor of RIPM (Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals) founder H. Robert Cohen. It grants aid for research and travel related to RIPM's goals, focusing on studies rooted in eighteenth-, nineteenth-, and twentieth-century music periodical literature. This includes work on music journals, critics and criticism, reception history, and issues concerning access and preservation of these resources.
