The mission of the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) is to initiate, encourage, and support research and public understanding of the history and cultures of the Near East and wider Mediterranean world, from the earliest times. ASOR aims to achieve its mission in a manner that is apolitical and without any religious affiliation.
ASOR offers fieldwork participation scholarships of $2,000 each to support individuals in participating in fieldwork in Western Asia and the wider Mediterranean. It focuses on funding scholarships that enable volunteers or staff to join excavation projects, as well as providing grants to support archaeological projects themselves. Since 2007, ASOR has granted over $1 million to more than 900 researchers and students through excavation grants, dig and survey scholarships, travel scholarships, and other research fellowships. The Eric and Carol Meyers Endowed Scholarship Fund, established in 2014, specifically supports ASOR members participating as volunteers or staff on excavation projects, with six scholarships of $2,000 each available for the summer of 2024.
