The mission of the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) is to initiate, encourage, and support research and public understanding of the history and cultures of the Near East and wider Mediterranean world, from the earliest times. ASOR aims to achieve its mission in a manner that is apolitical and without any religious affiliation.
ASOR offers research funding for its members through several fellowships, including the Study of Collections, Dar Ben Gacem Tunisian, Herbert Warren Mason, and Mesopotamian Fellowships. Specifically, the Mesopotamian Fellowship provides grant for research on ancient Mesopotamian culture, intended primarily for field research in the Middle East, but also considering projects working on museum collections or archives related to ancient Mesopotamia. The fellowship duration ranges from three months to a year, with $1,000 allocated for registration and travel support to the ASOR Annual Meeting, where recipients are expected to present their research.
