The mission of the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) is to initiate, encourage, and support research and public understanding of the history and cultures of the Near East and wider Mediterranean world, from the earliest times. ASOR aims to achieve its mission in a manner that is apolitical and without any religious affiliation.
ASOR aims to support archaeological research and education through its fieldwork participation scholarships. With a significant focus on Western Asia and the Mediterranean, it offers financial aid to both individuals participating in fieldwork and archaeological projects themselves. Over the years, ASOR has granted over $1 million to support more than 900 researchers and students. Among the scholarships offered, the P. E. MacAllister Scholarships are specifically designed to support ASOR members working as volunteers or staff on excavation projects. These scholarships are part of ASOR’s broader goal to enable and enhance the participation in and contribution to archaeological excavations and research in the region.
