The mission of the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) is to initiate, encourage, and support research and public understanding of the history and cultures of the Near East and wider Mediterranean world, from the earliest times. ASOR aims to achieve its mission in a manner that is apolitical and without any religious affiliation.
ASOR's grant program is focused on providing fieldwork participation scholarships, aiming to support individuals participating in Western Asia and the wider Mediterranean archaeological fieldwork. The program includes funding scholarships for excavation grants, dig and survey scholarships, travel scholarships, and other research fellowships. Specifically, the Shirlee Meyers/G. Ernest Wright Scholarships are designed to support ASOR members' participation as volunteers or staff on excavation projects, with funds allocated in memory of significant figures in ASOR's history to facilitate archaeological research and fieldwork experiences.
