The mission of the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) is to initiate, encourage, and support research and public understanding of the history and cultures of the Near East and wider Mediterranean world, from the earliest times. ASOR aims to achieve its mission in a manner that is apolitical and without any religious affiliation.
ASOR offers a grant program aimed at supporting fieldwork participation with a focus on archaeological excavations in Western Asia and the wider Mediterranean. Specifically highlighted is the Steinmetz Scholarships initiative, created to facilitate the involvement of U.S. military personnel or veterans in archaeological projects affiliated with ASOR, providing 3 scholarships of $2,000.
