The mission of the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) is to initiate, encourage, and support research and public understanding of the history and cultures of the Near East and wider Mediterranean world, from the earliest times. ASOR aims to achieve its mission in a manner that is apolitical and without any religious affiliation.
ASOR plans to award scholarships reinforcing its commitment to funding individuals participating in fieldwork in Western Asia and the wider Mediterranean. This includes supporting archaeological projects and enabling over 900 researchers and students since 2007 with various scholarships. Specifically, the Stevan B. Dana Scholarships will support 8 scholarships of $2,000 each, with five designated for individuals participating in excavations at Hazor—three for the excavations in the Lower City and two for the Selz Foundation Hazor Excavations. If no excavations occur at Hazor, the scholarships are redirected to other digs in Israel. Recipients for the Hazor-dedicated scholarships must also apply for participation in the Hazor excavations, where the Hazor directors will select the awardees.
