The ASPCA's mission is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States. This includes efforts to promote animal health and welfare, support pet owners, and ensure humane care and treatment for all animals.
The ASPCA Northern Tier Shelter Initiative (NTSI) Grants aim to enhance the quality of life for cats and dogs in Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. This is achieved through providing grants, complimentary consultations, and training to physical shelters, non-profit veterinary clinics, and Indigenous communities within these states. The primary goals of the NTSI grant program for 2023 include increasing access to spay/neuter services, improving shelter operations, broadening access to veterinary care for Indigenous communities, and fostering the bond between pets and their owners. Funding is awarded for various needs such as veterinary equipment, salaries for additional staff, animal housing, sanitation, shelter equipment, technology, subsidized veterinary services (specifically for Northern Tier indigenous communities), and continuing education scholarships. NTSI also offers specialized consultations in shelter medicine and operations, which could potentially be funded by the NTSI grants.
