To encourage and foster the exchange of information and ideas among biomechanists working in different disciplines and fields of application, such as biological sciences, exercise and sports science, health sciences, ergonomics and human factors, and engineering and applied science. It aims to facilitate the development of biomechanics as a basic and applied science.
The Goel Award for Translational Research in Biomechanics, established in 2016, honors individuals for their exceptional contributions to translational biomechanics research, entrepreneurship, and societal impact. Named in honor of Dr. Vijay Goel, the 2014 Borelli Award recipient, this annual award supports an American Society of Biomechanics member who demonstrates innovation, depth, and societal value in their research. A key criterion is the ability to translate biomechanical research into practical applications that enhance human health and well-being. The recipient, who receives an engraved plaque and a $1,000 prize, is required to attend the ASB Annual Meeting to accept the award.
