AmeriCorps is the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. AmeriCorps provides opportunities for Americans of all backgrounds to serve their country, address the nation’s most pressing challenges, and improve lives and communities.
The AmeriCorps programs, administered by Volunteer Florida, aim to recruit individuals for community service to tackle a wide array of societal issues. These programs offer participants a living stipend, an educational award, and on-the-job experience. Serving 35-40 hours per week for a year, members are engaged in activities such as mentoring at-risk students, training job-seekers, conserving public lands, and responding to disasters. The focus areas include education, disaster services, economic opportunity, conservation and natural resources, healthy futures, veterans and military families. Participants not only contribute to addressing significant community challenges but also mobilize community volunteers and enhance the organizational capacity of the places they serve, potentially setting a foundation for a career in public service or the nonprofit sector.
