The A.P. Giannini Foundation has contributed significantly to science philanthropy since 1945, dedicating nearly $50 million towards funding innovative research that propels the advancement of biomedical sciences into actionable treatments, preventions, and cures for human diseases.
The A.P. Giannini Foundation's Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and Leadership Award strives to support physician-scientists and junior researchers in conducting innovative research across basic and applied sciences. The goal is to advance the translation of biomedical science into treatments, preventions, and cures for human conditions such as heart disease, leukemia, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, autism, cystic fibrosis, melanoma, Hepatitis B, kidney disease, among others. The program not only focuses on research but also places a strong emphasis on leadership and professional development. Fellows are involved in a structured progression of training starting with communications in the first year, leadership skills in the second, and professional guidance in the third, alongside mentorship beyond their current principal investigators. This approach aims to prepare fellows for scientific leadership roles within academia, industry, or other sectors.
