The mission of POLAR (Polar Knowledge Canada) involves fostering science and technology in Canada's North. It aims to support the development and dissemination of knowledge related to polar regions and the North, contributing to national and international understanding of these areas.
The Northern Scientific Training Program (NSTP) seeks to encourage and support Canadian university students interested in northern studies and conducting thesis research in Northern regions. It aims to help these students gain professional experience and training in the North by providing supplementary funding. Annually, the NSTP assists over 350 students at more than 35 universities across Canada, focusing on the development of northern specialists to meet national needs.
