The funder's mission is to support women in the geosciences by providing financial assistance and resources to overcome barriers to completing their education, especially those caused by significant life interruptions.
The Jeanne E. Harris Chrysalis Scholarship is aimed at women geoscience graduate students who have faced significant interruptions in their education due to life circumstances. It offers up to $2,000 to help cover the costs associated with completing their thesis or dissertation, which are not typically covered by primary research funding. These costs can include drafting expenses, child-care, travel for defense, and late-stage research and analysis costs. Additionally, recipients receive a one-year student membership with AWG. Eligibility is limited to interruptions that occurred during the current graduate degree.
