The Black Fund at the Austin Community Foundation aims to empower Black-led organizations in Central Texas, advocating for equitable, just treatment and fostering the growth, economic security, and well-being of Black people. By leveraging data and community input, their mission encompasses the ambition for societal equity and nurturing the potential and prosperity of the Black community.
The Black Fund prioritizes investment in organizations and initiatives within five strategic areas to benefit the Black community in Central Texas. These include supporting successful educational outcomes (Education Access & Outcomes), advancing health and wellness (Health & Wellness), bolstering efforts for power building, organizing, and advocacy to challenge unjust systems (Power Building, Organizing, & Advocacy), closing the racial wealth gap (Wealth Building), and funding programs that elevate the creative and cultural contributions of Black artists (Arts, Culture & Preservation). Grants are awarded in various amounts across these categories, with the winning finalist receiving $40,000 over two years, two semifinalists receiving one-time grants of $20,000 each, and one runner-up receiving a $5,000 one-time grant. A total of $340,000 in unrestricted, general operating support will be awarded to 16 different nonprofit organizations that align with The Black Fund’s strategic areas. Organizations are encouraged to consult the scoring rubric to understand the application criteria better and submit a successful proposal.
