Biffa Award grants aim to build communities and transform lives by funding projects near landfill sites. They focus on improving the quality of life through funding site-based capital expenditure that creates or enhances community amenities.
The Biffa Award’s Main Grants Scheme offers funding across three distinct themes: Community Buildings, Recreation, and Rebuilding Biodiversity, each with its own set of eligibility criteria. Projects under the Recreation theme focus on facilities that benefit people during their leisure time, including the renovation of clubhouses for broader community use beyond sporting activities. Eligible organizations must be fully constituted, charitable or not-for-profit entities without share capital. The scheme does not support applications from local authorities, councils, hospices, hospitals, day-care centers, rehabilitation units, residential care facilities, allotments, nurseries, food banks, and schools/colleges. Priority is given to projects that demonstrate a wider community benefit and cater to diverse age groups and demographics. Applications are considered on a rolling basis, with the Board meeting four times a year to make funding decisions.
