    Overview

The Society Awards program by the Biophysical Society recognizes and honors members who have made significant contributions to the field of biophysics. With awards in sixteen different categories, the program seeks to acknowledge excellence across a wide range of biophysical research. This includes outstanding achievements in developing new methods or tools for understanding biological systems and mechanisms. While self-nominations are accepted for most categories, certain awards like the Fellows distinction and the Outstanding Doctoral Research in Biophysics Award exclude this option. Membership in the Society is a prerequisite for nominators, nominees, and recommenders. The Founders Award specifically celebrates scientists with exceptional accomplishments in any area of biophysics, providing an honorarium of $2,000 to the awardee.
