The New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund employs a three-pronged approach involving respect-based grantmaking, culturally relevant capacity building, and fostering an ecosystem to support robust racial equity and social justice outcomes for nonprofit and foundation leaders.
The grant program from the New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund is designed around five pillar areas to advance racial equity: Economic Empowerment, Policing & Criminal Justice Reform, Health Equity, Youth Development, and Identity and Culture Narrative. It supports strategies for wealth-creation, equitable policing practices, health literacy, youth empowerment, and artistic expression within Black and Brown communities. The fund operates on strategic multi-year support, responsive off-cycle support for immediate needs, and innovative projects, including collaborations and funder coalitions. Typically, investments are made on a 2-year basis and do not exceed $50,000 per year.
