BSA: Public Policy Award

    From Botanical Society of America

The mission of the Botanical Society of America (BSA) is to promote botany, the field of basic science dealing with the study and inquiry into the form, function, development, diversity, reproduction, evolution, and uses of plants and their interactions within the biosphere. This encompasses fostering research and education in all areas of plant science.

    Type of Support

    Overview

The BSA Public Policy Award aims to support early-career botanical scientists by covering registration expenses to attend the Virtual Congressional Advocacy Event during Congressional Visits Day in Washington, DC. The goal is to provide these scientists with a first-hand experience at the nexus of science and public policy, including policy and communications training by the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS). The training covers the legislative process, trends in federal funding for science, and effective communication with policymakers. Award recipients will have the opportunity to advocate for federal support of scientific research by meeting with Congressional policymakers. Winners are also featured in the Plant Science Bulletin and on the BSA website, highlighting the significance of connecting scientific research with policy advocacy.
