    The mission of the California Department of Housing and Community Development is to promote safe, affordable homes and strong vibrant communities across California. HCD helps to provide stable, safe homes affordable to veterans, seniors, young families, farm workers, tribes, people with disabilities, and individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

    Overview

    The grant program from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, funded through the federal Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), has approximately $19.38 million available. Its primary goal is to develop viable communities by ensuring activities funded meet at least one of the following national objectives: benefit low- and moderate-income persons, aid in the prevention or elimination of slums and blight, or meet certain urgent community needs. The program aims to reduce disparities and increase racial and socioeconomic equity in communities, ensuring equitable access to services and dignity in service delivery for marginalized populations including, but not limited to, people of color, immigrants, individuals with criminal records, disabilities, mental health and substance abuse vulnerabilities, limited English proficiency, and those identifying as LGBTQ+.
