California will provide a world-class education for all students, from early childhood to adulthood. The Department of Education serves our state by innovating and collaborating with educators, schools, parents, and community partners. Together, as a team, we prepare students to live, work, and thrive in a multicultural, multilingual, and highly connected world.
The grant program aims to support the provision of tobacco use prevention education to students in grades 6–12, particularly through the Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Office. It involves funding for the development of instructional materials, curricula, and activities that focus on preventing and ceasing tobacco, vape, and nicotine use. Competitive grants are available to County Offices of Education, school districts, direct-funded charter schools, and school district consortia. Requirements for receiving funding include adopting tobacco-free campus policies and conducting specific health surveys among students.
