The mission of CDFW is to manage California’s diverse fish, wildlife, and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public.
The Interim Wolf Livestock Loss Compensation Grant Program seeks to offset the negative impacts of wolves on livestock operations in California. It offers compensation across three main areas: 1) Direct Loss, for confirmed or probable livestock losses due to wolves; 2) Nonlethal Deterrents, offering reimbursement for employing nonlethal methods to prevent wolves from approaching livestock; and 3) Pay for Presence, providing funds for indirect losses from wolf activities in known pack territories. The program encourages the integration of various deterrence strategies and offers technical support through partnerships with various agricultural and wildlife agencies.
