The Department of Water Resources (DWR) is dedicated to managing and protecting California's water resources. DWR works to provide sustainable management of the state's water supply, supporting local water agencies' ability to deliver water to their communities, especially during critical times such as droughts.
The Riverine Stewardship Program (RSP) focuses on supporting fish passage improvements and similar projects aimed at increasing ecological, stream management, climate, and community benefits. It prioritizes projects that protect, restore, and enhance natural environments, particularly those of riparian systems. RSP encourages innovations in green infrastructure to provide habitat enhancements that benefit aquatic species and support fish migration, also addressing challenges posed by drought and climate change. The program sets funding priorities for projects that can offer near-term benefits, improve water supply and quality for native species and habitats, encourage public-private partnerships, align with specific sections of the Water Resilience Portfolio, support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Endangered Species Management and Recovery Plan, and enhance water supply reliability and groundwater storage. Geographic focus includes the "Delta export service area" and Counties within the Association of Bay Area Governments, among others.
