The Captain Planet Foundation works to support and inspire educators and young people to participate in project-based learning initiatives that address environmental challenges. Through grants and educational programs, the foundation seeks to foster stewardship of the environment and empower youth to become agents of change in their communities.
The Project Learning Garden Program by the Captain Planet Foundation aims to enrich STEAM education through garden-based learning. The program provides schools with the necessary resources to create outdoor learning spaces that encourage inquiry-driven, project-based learning across all disciplines. It includes the provision of five raised garden beds, a mobile cooking cart equipped for garden-fresh recipes, access to online garden-based lessons for all grade levels, materials and supplies for lessons and activities, online professional development for teachers, strategies for summer garden maintenance, and a volunteer day supported by Cox Associate for garden installation. This comprehensive support package, valued at $6,000, is designed to establish and sustain garden-based learning programs, fostering an environment where students can apply their learning in real-world settings. The program, highlighting Cox Enterprises' commitment to future generations, offers schools across various states, as well as in London, UK, and British Columbia, CA, the opportunity to participate in this holistic educational approach.
