Since 1932, the Foundation has focused on improving Rhode Island’s nonprofit community through investments primarily in capital projects. Originating from Stanton B. Champlin’s legacy, it has contributed to better healthcare, education, social services, economic impact, conservation, historic preservation, creativity, and animal care, enhancing lives and communities across Rhode Island.
The Champlin Foundation's grants program supports major library construction projects in Rhode Island with specified funding limits. For projects up to $2.5 million, the foundation may contribute up to twenty percent. An additional contribution of up to ten percent may be considered for the next $2.5 million of a project. Exceptions to these guidelines are rare and reserved for extraordinary circumstances, as decided by the Distribution Committee. This approach prioritizes thoughtful investment in fundamental infrastructure to improve the community's access to educational and informational resources.
