The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut aims to foster an informed and engaged citizenry as fundamental to a healthy democracy. They focus on creating an inclusive space for all voices, particularly emphasizing communities of color and the youth, in efforts to enhance civic life and build a just and civil society.
The grant program focuses on two main areas: Preservation of the Environment, and Advancement of Animal Welfare. It seeks to support projects that foster understanding and action on the connection between the health of the natural world and human well-being. This includes protecting environmentally significant lands and waterways, engaging youth in environmental education, focusing on environmental justice, and supporting programs that provide veterinary care, promote responsible pet ownership, rehabilitate wildlife, and facilitate positive human-animal interactions. Grants range from $5,000 to $50,000 and are awarded for new initiatives, special projects, or existing programs that align with these interests.
