    Overview

The grant program aims to support organizations and initiatives that empower women and girls in the Northeast, Norwich, Southeast, and Windham areas of Eastern Connecticut. Priority is given to programs that:

    1. Empower women and girls to make positive life decisions through mentoring, leadership development, career exposure, and character development.
    2. Prevent domestic violence and promote healthy relationships by providing education on teen dating violence, supporting shelters, and offering transitional housing and victim advocacy.
    3. Advance family economic security with training for job and career advancement and programs addressing financial barriers for low-income women.
    4. Improve access to health services, including mental and reproductive health through counselling, health education, and healthcare access.
    5. Support public policy, advocacy, and leadership training aimed at promoting equity and social justice.
    6. Specifically, in the Southeast area, support older women with limited incomes to remain at home through services like meal delivery and nursing.

The grants are funded through endowments created by generous donations, with a total of $6.3 million supporting over 580 programs with more than $2.7 million in grants awarded. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Community Foundation to discuss project ideas before applying, especially new organizations.
