    Overview

The Youth Leadership grant program aims to support youth and youth-serving nonprofits by funding projects that give young individuals a voice in their communities and provide them with leadership opportunities. Originating from a significant challenge grant by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in 1991, this initiative emphasizes youth involvement in all phases of the grantmaking process, from proposal review to project implementation. Grants typically range from $2,500 to $20,000, targeting programs that either engage youth in their development or aim to create leadership opportunities for them within southeast Michigan. The program prioritizes projects that increase young people's awareness of local issues, foster partnerships across diverse groups, and are led by propositions from either school districts or 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. The selection process is youth-driven, with recommendations made by a Youth Advisory Committee to the Community Foundation's Board.
