    Overview

The New Horizons Travel Fellowships program is designed to help defray the costs of attending meetings and conferences, specifically targeting the annual New Horizons in Science briefings. With a maximum reimbursement of $1,200 for travel to the Science Writers 2023 conference, the fellowships aim to bring together leading scientists and journalists for a comprehensive look at notable advancements in science, medicine, and technology poised to make news. These fellowships are primarily for reporters from smaller news outlets, freelancers, and webcasters with a strong interest in science writing, aiming to provide them an immersive introduction to science reporting. Recipients of the fellowship can also request a veteran science writer to serve as a personal mentor, enhancing their professional development.
