The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation aims to enhance the quality of life in the Duluth Superior region through the establishment and administration of endowed funds created by individuals, families, private foundations, and businesses. Since 1983, it has distributed over $40 million in grants and scholarships, managing more than 360 funds for various charitable purposes.
The grant program has clear goals centered around supporting initiatives within specific areas: arts, community development, education, the environment, human services, and youth. The guiding principles include strengthening community ties, addressing the root causes of community problems, responding to solvable community needs through modest grants, supporting innovative solutions with start-up needs, and fostering connections among diverse community members. The program emphasizes the importance of projects that have the potential for financial self-sustainability post-funding, acknowledging that while they may offer more than one year of support, the aim is not to provide long-term or permanent funding.
