ELF, established in 1996 as a 501(c)3, aims to support endangered language preservation and documentation. It funds projects globally through grants to individuals, tribes, and museums, focusing on the development of indigenous radio programs, recording of oral histories, and the creation of literacy materials for endangered language teaching programs.
The Native Voices Endowment Grants are designed to support the documentation and revitalization of the languages of specific tribes. The grants fund various projects, including native language education programs, curriculum development, individual language study by Native students through academic or mentor-apprentice arrangements, documentation and recording for preservation, and scholarships and travel grants for training/workshops that aid in language documentation or revitalization. This one-year grant has a maximum budget of $10,000.
