The Foundations of East Chicago aim to enhance the quality of life in East Chicago by supporting schools, churches, municipal agencies, and nonprofit organizations. They focus on providing financial assistance through scholarships, strategic grants, and by offering service and leadership in the community.
The Program Grants are annual grants aimed at supporting specific programs aligned with FEC priorities, which include distinct areas such as Education/Job Training, Health, Safety, and Community Enrichment. These programs are expected to have a solid plan with measurable outcomes and a demonstrated potential for success. Under Education/Job Training, priorities include educational advancement, vocational programs, ESL, adult education, immigration and naturalization programming, college preparation, and special needs support among others. Health priorities focus on screening, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, and mental health. Safety grants aim to support violence prevention and foster better police-community relations. Community Enrichment grants support arts, cultural events, and sports programs. Each potential grantee must showcase a clear operational plan that demonstrates potential for success in these areas.
