    Overview

The Douglas Dockery Thomas Fellowship in Garden History and Design, sponsored by the GCA, aims to support an exceptional graduate student in their study and research at a leading American institution. Established in 2000 by Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer J. Thomas, Jr., it reflects the GCA's commitment to garden history and design, focusing on the future of gardens and their significance within our environment. The fellowship encourages projects with a wide scope such as garden restoration techniques, the impact of community group gardens on public spaces, documentation of gardens' healing properties, and the development of ecologically responsible gardens, among other possibilities. Selection criteria include the alignment of proposed work with GCA objectives and the academic and personal excellence of the student.
