The mission of the Department of Natural Resources is to sustain, enhance, protect and conserve Georgia's natural, historic and cultural resources for present and future generations, while recognizing the importance of promoting the development of commerce and industry that utilize sound environmental practices.
The Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP) by NPS is designed to tackle the issue of inadequate access to outdoor recreation in urban, disadvantaged communities, often referred to as "park deserts." The program aligns with the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Act and Manual's goals and requirements, focusing on providing new or significantly improved recreation opportunities. Priority is given to projects that introduce new recreational opportunities enhancing access to the benefits of nature, engage community members in planning, foster public-private partnerships to leverage additional resources, exhibit strong coordination among various sectors, and align with local to national recreational plans or initiatives.
