The First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund (FNCEBF) aims to increase Indigenous community participation in the clean energy sector within their asserted traditional territories and treaty areas. It is administered by the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, leveraging expertise from across the provincial government to assess applications, enabled by the Clean Energy Act.
The FNCEBF offers capacity funding and equity funding to support First Nations' involvement in the clean energy sector. Capacity funding is designed to assist with feasibility studies, community energy planning, and engaging with project proponents, highlighting financial analysis and development potential within their territories, with a fund appropriation of up to $50,000 per eligible applicant. Consideration for increased support is possible for multiple project developments within a single applicant’s traditional territory. Equity funding aims to back financially viable clean energy projects that have secured an Energy Purchase Agreement, with a maximum total grant of $500,000 per applicant.
