The Harvard Travellers Club established the PERMANENT FUND with the mission to support and encourage travel-related research and exploration. Since its inception in 1937, the fund aims to uphold the tradition of "intelligent travel" by providing financial assistance to dedicated and adventurous individuals embarking on research or exploration that necessitates travel.
The PERMANENT FUND offers modest stipends, up to $4000 each, to one or more individuals each year in pursuit of travel-related research and exploration. Since 2014, around 50 grants have been awarded, underlining the fund's commitment to fostering projects that involve intelligent travel. There are no specific application forms required; candidates only need to submit a resume along with a project description, including the need for financial assistance and travel dates. Annually, one to three grants are awarded to applicants whose projects align with the goals of intelligent travel and exploration.
