The Hawai‘i Community Foundation (HCF) aims to benefit the communities and people of Hawai‘i through project or program-based funding. It leverages specific community funds, supported by various donors and estates, to cater to the diverse needs and aspirations of the Hawaiian population with an emphasis on fostering positive change and development within these communities.
The HCF Community Grants Program is designed to enhance the work of nonprofit organizations in addressing and responding to community needs across Hawaii. It involves providing project or program-based funding specifically through community funds established within HCF. These funds target a variety of areas and geographies with the goals of building sustainable communities. The program operates through four grant rounds annually, each focusing on different priorities as dictated by fund advisory committees. Current funding priorities include supporting educational, cultural, and recreational activities for the Lāna‘i community, with an emphasis on youth, young adults, and senior citizens through the Lanai Community Benefit Fund, and a wide range of community needs on Kaua‘i, including culture and arts, education, environment, health, and human services through the Annie Sinclair Knudsen Memorial Fund.
