HawkWatch International (HWI) is dedicated to conserving raptors (birds of prey) through scientific research, education, and stewardship. HWI focuses on global conservation efforts, aiming to increase diversity and inclusivity within the conservation field while building local capacities for research and protection of raptors worldwide.
The Global Raptor Research & Conservation Grant by HawkWatch International supports projects that target global raptor conservation priorities, with a special emphasis on regions identified as having the highest need such as tropical areas of Central and South America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia. These regions are highlighted due to their high numbers of total species, understudied species, and species prone to extinction. The grant, which can provide up to $2,500 USD to selected applicants, aims to rectify the imbalances in raptor research and conservation efforts. It seeks to enable research and conservation projects by offering financial support, scientific guidance, networking opportunities, and help in publicizing project results to amplify their impact. This grant program focuses on shifting the investment towards under-researched areas and species, particularly those at risk of extinction or with declining populations, to foster a more inclusive and comprehensive global approach to raptor conservation.
